Just The Way You Are

Most people don’t walk around half naked everyday in their usual lives and so the thought of doing it on holiday in front of a bunch of strangers can be daunting for some. I was at a park earlier this week when it was super hot in London and the majority of women there were just in bikinis. However, there was a group of young girls next to me around 14/15 years old or so who were happily sunbathing with the norm, bar one girl who had a bikini top on styled with a pair of high waisted shorts, when to my surprise one of the girls in the group said to her “ugh just take your shorts off already you’re annoying me now”. I watched while this poor girl, who was larger than her friends and clearly wanted to be slightly more covered up, reluntantly took her shorts off to the peer pressure of the group. Kids can be so cruel.

The point of my story is that you should only wear what you’re comfortable in, period. If that’s a bikini top with high waisted shorts then that’s what it is. Most women know this but for a young teenager growing up it can evidently be hard. There are woman who are a size 20 who are happy to wear a two piece- but if you’re a size 8, 10, 12 etc (whatever size) and you’re not comfortable, then don’t. It’s that simple.

I feel like this coincides well with sizing in stores. They all differ and it’s annoying but if you’re a 10 in one shop and then a 12 in the other- buy the 12. Don’t struggle to squeeze into something that doesn’t fit you, wont make you feel great, and will just be uncomfortable for the sake of a little number on the inside of your clothes that nobody is ever going to see.

There are so many options now, if you saw my previous post you’ll find a cheap stylish option for a one piece. Then there is the high waisted brief that has made a massive come back and is hugely on trend. You don’t have to look like a prude, like a grandma, or any of the other words I’m sure used to be associated with covering up on the beach.

I don’t want to condone not looking after your body and saying that it is okay to be overweight because if you’re paranoid over it then there are options to cover up because I’m a massive advocate of eating healthily and looking after yourself. I do however realise that every body is different. Each woman has their own insecurities, the own parts to their body that they personally don’t like. Or even just days where we feel particularly more sluggish and bloated than normal. It’s nice to have another option, regardless of your size, as oppose to feeling like you cant go and enjoy the sunshine because you’re feeling insecure and I think these highwaisted briefs are a great alternative. Unfortunately this set from Topshop is one that I’ve had for a while and so not available anymore. I have found some other great options for you here though.

This type of style is so comfortable and really makes you feel secure. If you’ve read my breakfast post you’ll know that I have struggled in the past and still do suffer with stomach issues where I bloat and these type of briefs genuinely feel like they’re pulling you in and giving you extra support.

I’ve finished this outfit off with a gorgeous chevron print visor wrap around with bow detail at the back- this one is from Topshops last season so again unavailable now but I’ve found another great alternative here. Then I’m wearing my favourite classic Clubmaster Rayban sunglasses which you can buy here.

There are so many different types of swimwear you can wear on your holidays now- there’s never been more choice or more diversity on the high street in terms of trends and sizing- which makes it possible to find that perfect fit- so get out there and wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and most importantly- confident.
